Character Development
Character Education permeates ALL learning areas and subjects above, but with specific focus according to the perceived major developmental concerns of the students’ age group, as follows:
First Year:
Studies, Friendship, and Social Relations
Second Year:
Family and Family Solidarity
Third Year:
Social Issues and Civic Responsibility
Fourth Year:
Personality Development, Marriage, and Family Life
For high school the pedagogical directions of Bannister would be as follows:
GOAL 1: CULTIVATING INTELLECTUAL LIFE
- Stress on subjects developing the intellect (Literature, History, Science, Mathematics, for example)
- Stress on work and study habits
GOAL 2: HONING IN COMPREHENSION AND EXPRESSION SKILLS
- Stress on subjects proper to writing, reading, listening and speaking through promotion criteria and policy for the succeeding curriculum year
- Incorporation of skills in all subjects in all levels
- Consideration of grammar and other basic skills in grading subjects (but not as criteria for passing)
GOAL 3: EDUCATION IN RESPONSIBLE FREEDOM
- Critical importance given to mentoring chats
- Stress on parental collaboration with the school
- Deliberate decisions regarding disciplinary cases
GOAL 4: EDUCATION FOR NOBLE IDEALS
- Regularity of mentoring chats with students and parents
- Stress of ideals in Literature, History, Philosophy, Composition
